Journalist, Political Risk Consultant, Academic Researcher
Guney Yildiz is a journalist based in London and a researcher on Turkey, the Kurds and the Middle East with the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, SWP in Berlin and the Middle East Institute based in Washington D.C.
He is pursuing a PhD at the University of Cambridge on political mobilisation by armed non-state actors in the Middle East.

He advised members of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee of the U.K. Parliament, as a Specialist Adviser on Turkey. He has also been regularly consulted by government institutions and the diplomatic community in London on Turkey, Kurds and the region. He has given talks at the US State Department, UK FCO, UK Cabinet Office, the Élysée Palace, Chatham House, RUSI, ECFR, University of Cambridge and University of Oxford, the UK Parliament and LSE.

As an award-winning journalist with the BBC News, he broke numerous top U.K. and international stories that have been picked up by other domestic and international broadcasters.
He carried out senior broadcast journalist, reporter, producer and presenter roles during his career at the BBC.
He finished a visiting fellowship with the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), a pan-European think-tank, where he worked as a specialist researcher on Syria.
He studied for a master’s degree from the London School of Economics with Chevening Scholarship.

He also works as a political and security consultant and does investigative journalism mainly on Turkey, Kurds and on Daesh (IS). He speaks Turkish and Kurdish (Kurmanji) and studies Arabic (Syrian dialect).
